Community Guidelines

Citymates is for adults who want to meet people with real effort and real respect. These rules apply everywhere on Citymates: profiles, photos, video answers, the questions you set, chat, and in-person mixers. They’re part of our Terms of Service.

Be real

• Use your own name (first name is fine), your own photos, and your own videos.
• One account per person.
• Be honest about who you are, your age, and your relationship status.
• Don’t impersonate anyone, and never use someone else’s ID.

Be respectful

• No harassment, threats, bullying, or stalking.
• No hate speech or slurs about race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected trait.
• “No” means no. If someone doesn’t reply, passes on your answer, or unmatches, let it go.
• Don’t share someone’s messages, videos, photos, or personal information without their permission.

Keep it appropriate

• No nudity or sexually explicit content in profiles, photos, videos, or answers.
• No unsolicited sexual messages or images.
• Questions you set for others must be respectful. No questions about someone’s body, sexual history, income, or immigration status.
• No graphic violence or content that encourages self-harm.

Keep it safe

• Never ask for or offer money, gifts, crypto, gift cards, loans, or investment opportunities.
• No selling, promoting businesses, or recruiting for other services.
• No sex work, solicitation, or human trafficking.
• No illegal drugs or weapons.
• Nobody under 18. Ever.

Keep it on Citymates until you’re ready

• Don’t push someone to move to another app or share their number before they want to.
• Don’t put contact details or social handles in your profile. Early in a conversation, we hide phone numbers, emails, links, and handles in chat automatically.
• Don’t try to get around our safety tools, including contact masking and moderation.

At mixers

• Follow the Host’s lead and the venue’s rules.
• Drink responsibly. Hosts and venues can ask anyone to leave.
• Don’t follow, corner, or pressure anyone. Respect a “no thanks” the first time.
• Don’t photograph or record other attendees without their permission.

For Hosts

• Host only at public venues approved by Citymates.
• Never share any member’s contact details, last name, or profile with anyone.
• Don’t pursue romantic or sexual contact with attendees at a mixer you’re hosting.
• Don’t accept cash or gifts from members.
• You may ask a guest to leave for breaking these guidelines or venue rules, and you must file a report afterward.
• For any medical emergency or threat of violence, call 911 first, then contact Citymates.

Reporting and blocking

You can report or block anyone from their profile, an answer, or a chat, including after you’ve unmatched. When you report someone, they disappear from your Discover, inbox, and chat right away. Reports are confidential: we never tell someone who reported them. Our team reviews every report. If you’re in danger, call 911 first. See our Safety Tips for more.

What happens if you break these rules

Depending on what happened, we may hide or remove content, give a warning, limit features like messaging or answering, suspend your account, or ban you permanently. We consider how serious it was, whether it was likely a mistake, and your history.

These lead to an immediate permanent ban:

• Being under 18, or any sexual content involving minors (which we report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children)
• Threats of violence, or violence at a mixer or date
• Sexual assault or sharing intimate images without consent
• Asking for money, crypto, gift cards, or investments
• Human trafficking or solicitation
• Impersonating someone or using someone else’s ID
• Serious hate speech or targeted harassment
• Coming back after a ban

If you think we got it wrong, you can appeal once by emailing support@citymates.com within 30 days. A different reviewer will look at it.
